Soft tissue treatments have been a significant part of musculoskeletal rehabilitation for years. Several clinical models have been proposed to evaluate and treat these tissues, mainly through the use of manual therapy techniques. Recently, new techniques employing instruments to treat soft tissue dysfunctions, e.g. instrumental soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) or dry needling – have become popular. The purpose of this article is to present the available literature on this topic, and the clinical implications of these studies.
