Chronic pain represents today a public health problem worldwide. There is an increasing body of evidence indicating its association with disability, anxiety and depression, sleep disorders, altered body perception, poor quality of life and increased healthcare costs. Listed among the non-pharmacological experimental interventions with documented evidence of efficacy are: graded motor imagery, sensorimotor retraining and bodily illusion, techniques able to modify the level of pain in conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA), complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and neuropathic pain. We interviewed the physiotherapist Tasha Stanton about these techniques.
