Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a recurrent clinical condition in the context of groin pain syndrome. FAI is commonly observed in sports activities that impose a high functional demand on the coxo-femoral joint. FAI can cause functional limitations and important sequelae. Important advances both in the diagnosis of FAI and in the arthroscopic surgery of the hip joint have meant that the health professional and the athletic trainer are increasingly confronted with FAI-related conservative or post-surgical procedures. The purpose of this review is to address the problem by providing a state of the art both from a theoretical and practical point of view. In this first article, the first phase of the conservative treatment of Cam and Pincer FAI is analyzed.
