The word tape/taping generally indicates a patch (elastic or anelastic) that is applied for therapeutic purposes directly on the skin. The potential benefits range from inhibition of pain and increased blood circulation and lymph drainage, to reduced muscle fatigue and improved posture and sports performance. However, although the clinical efficacy has not yet been unequivocally established in the scientific literature so as to permit generalizability of the results, the popularity that taping has gained in recent years has led to some confusion about the terminology and occasionally to an improper use of this tool. In this issue, we asked David Blow, initiator of the Neuromuscular Taping concept, to provide us with some insights on this topic.
