Peripheral vascular diseases may affect the arteries or veins, or both, or the lymph vessels. This article analyses the specific case of peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Given its multifactorial etiopathogenetic nature and the variability of the clinical manifestations – not to mention the now universally recognized multidisciplinary approach – it is important to make the rehabilitation/reeducation program as personalized as possible. This approach indicates the most suitable path for a particular individual in order to obtain the best therapeutic outcome. The goals of physical, psychosocial and professional rehabilitation, hence, must be to maximize the patient’s functional capabilities and adaptation in line with the damage already suffered and with eventual environmental constraints. In this way, the person will be able to resume a useful and personally satisfying social participation.
