Tapes have been used for years in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, mostly to protect joints and ligaments in the acute phase of traumatic injuries. The tape application for maintaining a specific biomechanical correction was proposed by several manual therapy and rehabilitation schools. Recently, elastic and non-elastic tape applications have been studied to determine their therapeutic efficacy for musculoskeletal pain. The purpose of this article is to present the actual literature related to this topic together with the clinical efficacy of tape applications.
