Rhizarthrosis or arthrosis of the thumb is a de- generative process causing the cartilage to wear out at the level of the carpometacarpal joint located at the base of the thumb, with a gradual impairment of the movement of the thumb. The pathology is multifactorial, usually affecting the dominant hand, and among the causes that favor its appearance are female sex, osteoarthritis, traumatic events, work or sports, familiarity and aging. The diagnosis is based on traditional radiological imaging, which has the best capacity for staging the severity of the degenerative picture.
