Documented evidence shows how manual therapy techniques can be effective on hip arthrosis, thanks most probably to their biomechanical and neurophysiological effects. The biomechanical effects include increased elasticity of the joint capsule and an effect on the muscles surrounding the hip joint, which help to restore normal arthrokinematics. Neurophysiological effects include the activation of the descending inhibitory system and a central pain processing mechanism as a physiological response to mechanical stimulation and increased motor control.
The article presents two treatment techniques in the context of manual therapy.
