Dance, in all its forms, is a high-demand art form from the athletic and esthetic point of view, and not exempt from the correlated pathologies – owing to a large number of factors including the shape of the articular surfaces, the muscle action and body conformation. The majority of injuries in professional dancers are related to the lower limb - injuries to the ankle/foot, knee and hip/pelvis - followed by problems involving the spine and upper limb. Musculoskeletal diseases in ballet dancers This article analyzes the various diseases, whether of traumatic (tendon and muscle injuries, fractures, overuse pathologies) or orthopedic origin, affecting dancers in relation to their age and sex.
