Prosthetic knee arthroplasty surgery is the best choice for treating advanced osteoarthritis. Despite its positive outcome in the long term and the reduction of pain symptoms, functional limitations and deficits related to lower limb muscle weakness can often remain. To overcome these, there is need for an individualized exercise protocol following the post-surgical rehabilitation program.
This article describes the basis of a supervised exercise protocol recommended to patients who have completed the rehabilitation path. The program is individually tailored to meet the goals and capabilities of each person.
