Although therapeutic exercise is considered in the literature as the treatment of choice in the pre-operative treatment of acute ACL injury, manual therapy techniques can be used to improve and hasten the recovery of joint mobility and reduce pain. This would seem to correlate with better functional outcomes in the post-operative period. Joint mobilisation techniques aimed at the patellofemoral and patellofemoral joints can be used to achieve this goal.
