Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a common cause of anterior hip/groin pain and impaired functional performance in younger sporting populations, and it is the result of morphological abnormalities of the hip in which the proximal femur abuts against the acetabular rim. Patients with FAI present with chronic, deep, or aching anterior groin pain, most commonly when in the sitting position or during or after activity. FAI has been recognized as a potential precursor of and important contributor to hip pain in the adult population and idiopathic hip osteoarthritis later in life. A thorough medical history is, hence, necessary which should include the incidence of any traumas sustained as well as exercise frequency. An early recognition and adequate intervention could be critical for reducing the morbidity and preventing the progression of FAI.
