Total hip replacement surgery (THR) is a common procedure used to treat arthritis when other types of therapies have failed to produce a response. Patients who have undergone THR develop asymmetrical movement patterns, due to muscle weakness and/or pain, which can lead to a modified weight-bearing (WB). Correct WB on the two legs, in particular during walking, is the most important targets of early mobilization in patients with THR. This article describes a study that aims to investigate the effects of visual biofeedback on WB in patients following THR, compares the results to those obtained with corrections based on PT verbal instructions.
