Hallux rigidus is the most common arthritic condition of the foot. In this case report, we discuss a woman with pain and functional limitation in the first toe after a prolonged period of immobilization, diagnosed as due to a condition of hallux rigidus. After informing the patient about the nature of the problem and the prognosis, we suggested a conservative management in order to control the pain and improve stiffness and foot function using passive techniques, shoe modification suggestions and active exercises to be carried out at home.
