Abstract
Deductive logic and medical error

All scientific reasoning, including that involved in diagnosis, requires logic; in particular, deductive logic is necessary. Here are shown the valid and invalid forms of hypothetical syllogism and the consequences – including legal – of abductive reasoning and of counter-reasoning in the case of liability for medical negligence.
