In the great majority of cases, musculoskeletal patients are affected by a non-specific disorder, in that it is not possible to identify a specific cause of the patient’s symptoms. These non-specific disorders are multifactorial and determined by a number of impairments such as pain, decreased range of movement, as well as other factors. Among the possible impairments found in these patients are balance impairments, which can be associated to disorders both of the lower and upper quadrant, with important consequences for the patient in their daily life and disability. This article aims to describe the role of balance impairments in musculoskeletal disorders, and their clinical consequences.
