Hip arthritis and manual therapy
Marco Primavera
Hip osteoarthritis (coxarthrosis) is a debilitating condition characterized by the degeneration of articular cartilage, leading to pain, loss of mobility, and reduced quality of life. Conservative treatment includes both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, such as manual therapy, which is used to improve range of motion (ROM) and reduce pain. However, scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of manual therapy, especially as a standalone treatment, is limited and often of low quality. Available studies show mixed results, and while some suggest short-term benefits, there is a lack of robust evidence to recommend manual therapy as an effective long-term intervention. Moreover, it remains unclear which techniques are most effective in treating coxarthrosis, and further research is needed to clarify the role of manual therapy in managing the condition.
