Psychologically Informed Care arises from the multidimensional concept of pain and is focused on the management of cognitive, emotional and behavioural factors that influence the outcome of the therapeutic intervention.
This model can be applied in rehabilitation for the management of persistent and recurrent pain through Psychologically Informed Practice and Psychologically Informed Physical Therapy, whose main objective is the restoration of activity and the elimination of psychosocial factors that hinder recovery. The skills required to implement this model include targeted training of healthcare professionals, open, empathic and reflective communication directed at conveying an understanding of pain, and support in improving activity through concrete and functional goals.
A fundamental tool in psychologically informed physiotherapy is the clinical interview and the comprehensive assessment of the patient, taking into account biological, physical, psychological, social and personal factors.
