Stroke is a syndrome characterized by a sudden onset of focal or diffuse neurological deficits which last for more than 24 hours. With the rising incidence of ictus and an estimated prevalence of 913,000 people affected in our country, stroke represents one of the major causes of permanent disability. The main goal of motor rehabilitation after stroke is to manage the increased muscle tone and the resulting deficit of neuromotor control and reduced strength, which compromise the performance of normal daily life activities and lead to a global and progressive decline in quality of life. Aquatic therapy represents an alternative to conventional treatment.
