The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly altered our lives, causing psychological effects in healthcare workers, infected people, and also in the population as a whole.
This article describes recent studies that have highlighted the increase in psychological distress caused by the pandemic. It also describes the three main coping mechanisms used to face stressful situations: coping centered on the problem, coping centered on emotions, and copied centered on social support. Finally, it presents Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as an effective treatment in posttraumatic stress disorder and encourages a greater investment in mental health.
