The article examines the distinction between “patient” and “disease”, underscoring how disease has been historically and culturally understood both as an abstract condition and an external entity. In modern medicine, disease is often addressed as an objective phenomenon to be battled, employing standardized approaches that may reduce the patient’s role to a passive one. However, an alternative perspective emphasizes the patient’s individuality and the importance of personalized care, acknowledging that disease is merely a part of the human condition, not the defining essence of the individual.
