Patellofemoral pain syndrome is considered the most common overload injury of the entire lower extremity and is the most prevalent in physically active individuals. In the rehabilitation sciences, numerous strategies for conservative management have been defined, including therapeutic exercise to improve muscle imbalance, patellar taping, various manual therapy techniques, patient education, and activity modification. There is no evidence that a single treatment works for all patients with patellofemoral pain. There is limited evidence that some treatment modalities may be helpful for certain subgroups of patients with patellofemoral pain.
