In recent years, a greater knowledge of the mechanisms of plasticity has prompted the search for new strategies in the field of rehabilitation to obtain the greatest possible functional recovery. From this perspective, the role of robotic rehabilitation has gained ever-increasing ground. The purpose of this article is to examine the characteristics of the robotic devices used in upper limb rehabilitation following brain damage or orthopedic injury, and to discuss their possibilities and limits of use.
